Alicia, Ben, Gabby, Jen, Jordan, Josh, Jake L, and Melody gave mini presentations today. Crystal discussed the team projects and drew slips to decide which teams would get what chapter. The first 3 chapter’s get extra points for being the first to present. Me, Alysa, and Jordan got chapter 16: the classical and medieval ages for our project. We discussed a meeting time and place for this Friday, so we could start working on it immediately. For an assignment, the class are supposed to read chapter 6 and post a drawing related video and identify what the medium is. It is worth 3 points and due before class. I enjoy looking at tattoos, because they have very interesting designs, different than normal drawings or paintings. They tend to be especially creative. There are many sites to look at ideas, but heres one: http://gettattooideas.net/

For the beginning of class, we discussed chapter 6: drawing. We completed the chapter 6 quiz on receptive and projective drawing for 5 points and team project procedure participation for 5 points. For the second half of the semester, we will have random in-class quizzes to earn participation points. After this, Crystal explained the team projects, along with the dates for each team. Drawing can vary, but is mostly defined as the technique sketch a picture on a flat surface, using pen, pencil, pastel, etc, and not paint. It can be done using wet or dry media.

Keywords

  • Pigment=powdered coloring material

  • Binder=substance that holds pigment together to the surface

  • Dry Media = Pencil, Metal point, Charcoal, Chalk, Crayon, and Pastel

  • Liquid Media= Pen, Ink, Brush, and Ink wash

  • Graphite= gave opportunity to vary lines, use modeling, and be spontaneous, could be erased

  • Metal Point= thin wire to produce very thin, uniform lines, hatching and cross hatching. Difficult and unforgiving

  • Charcoal, Chalk and Crayon= allows bold, spontaneous lines, very soft medium, lines can be thick, thin, faint or dark, tentative lines

Today we discussed the competency required for the new unit, which is chapter 6 to 14, The Media of Art. It will be covered within the next 2 weeks. Jordan, Jake L, Gabby H, and I all shared for Art Appreciation. I shared a video by Draw with Jazza. Find his free videos on youtube here: https://www.youtube.com/user/DrawWithJazza . He is an author of many books. He specializes in Anime, Japanese styled Cartoons, but he is very good at teaching the basics of drawing for any style. He has many videos on perspective, figure drawing, and anything else required for beginners. Later, we previewed chapter 7:Painting. After that, we completed the team project steps 2 and 3 in class. Crystal told us before class ended that we get extra points if we dress up for halloween monday. I would have if i had a costume. All i have is a batman T-shirt, but i couldn't even find that sadly.
