Today we skipped sharing and went straight to reviewing chapter 3 and taking the quiz. After the quiz, we went over the chapter 4 project which is due Monday, 10-10-16. To prepare for chapter four, we were assigned the book reading and 2 questions about the chapter. This questions should be something we didn't understand or wanted to know more about as we read the chapter from the book. Mine were:
How many kinds of drawing?
The difference between wet and dry media? (examples of wet media: http://expressyourselfthroughart.weebly.com/wet-media---ink.html)

Katie shared her elements of design definition. Afterwards, we watched a youtube video crystal found about the elements and principles of design. It was basically a slideshow with some text and pictures for examples.
We started chapter four today, the principles of design.
For examples of Unity and variety, we looked at "I saw the figure 5 in Gold" by Charles Duschen. It shows unity because of the repetition between the colors and the number 5, along with the many simple black lines. It's an Oil, graphite, and ink painting made to go along with the following poem, by William Carlos Williams, who was Duschen's friend.
"The Great Figure" by William Carlos Williams Among the rain and lights I saw the figure 5 in gold on a red firetruck moving tense unheeded to gong clangs siren howls and wheels rumbling through the dark city.

The test date for chapter 3 was changed to be on monday, while the project was changed to be due Tuesday. We shared our 100 words on our ideation process for our "What is American Society" project. We continued chapter four, discussing balance, contrast, repetition, and scale and proportion. Balance can be symmetrical (Both half’s of artwork are mirror images of each other. EX: snowflake.) asymmetrical (Different on each side, but still balanced). "Dont Touch me" by Titian is asymmetrically balanced because Mary is in warm colors while the background is in cool colors. Contrast can be strongly objects, opposite colors, or very different sizes. Scale is the size of an object in relation to another object, while proportion is the relative size of the parts of a whole.
